Shadows in the Dark is a documentary movie produced by Dr. Mariana Dahan of the World Identity Network Foundation (WIN Foundation). In the documentary, Dr. Dahan explores the dark places across the globe where people suffer from a lack of access to identity. Without access to identification, people in many cases are denied the rights that we believe are basic to humanity: a right to access food and water; a right to freely move within a country, and sometimes between them; a right to not be killed or injured; a right to basic health services. This means that a significant portion of the world’s population lacks the basic right that underpins the entire network of human rights we take for granted. This population has become consigned to the shadows – invisible to society, and vulnerable to a vast array of exploitation and horrific abuses. Not only are they doomed to lives of poverty, often with nowhere to go or call home, but they become easy prey for human traffickers, slavers, and criminal organizations.

Liberty was tasked with designing a website to showcase and introduce the movie to audiences across the world. The site needed to be informative and promotional, while maintaining aesthetics from the movie itself. We created an experience for potential movie viewers to absorb the essence of the movie prior to watching, preparing them for the viewing experience.

Website Design and Development

Shadows in the Dark is a movie about hope and progress, but it is couched within the shadows of the world. Dealing with some of the darkest aspects of humanity, the movie’s aesthetic is shrouded in elements of this darkness, and the drama of conflict and suffering. However, it is also about human lives and human hope. Or task was mainly aesthetic — to capture movement and progress, against a backdrop of horror.

The site captured the movie aesthetic, while also providing prominent access to view both the trailer and the movie itself.
